About

Nina Calves is a photographer and visual artist based in Washington D.C., and Westchester, New York. She is currently studying photojournalism with minors in Journalism and Mass Communication, and Classical and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the George Washington University.

Calves’s work focuses on the natural world, relationships, bodies, vulnerability, and belonging. Her process is centered around small details that connect her to her work. She was drawn to photography as a way to observe the people she loves and connect with them.

Growing up in New York state, she has always been surrounded by nature. Her childhood of trudging through the woods, playing softball and basketball, and going to summer camp in the Adirondacks informs her work. She is co-captain of the GW women’s+ rugby team and is passionate about music, and theatre.

Over Summer 2025, she interned with Street Sense Media in Washington, D.C., and hopes to pursue a career in photojournalism and law after graduating in May of 2026.
